Qualified IRA Charitable Distribution Info


We know some of us cringe during the start of tax season and put off doing our taxes until the very last moment.  It can be a very stressful time of year to ensure that we minimize our tax burden and utilize our resources efficiently.  To assist our retired church members in the proper handling of Qualified Charitable Distributions from an IRA account, the finance committee would like to offer a standardized form and procedure to make this process easier.

The instructions and form below will aid you in making qualified charitable distibutions from your IRA account.


The recommended procedure to turn it in is as follows:

  1. Put check from IRA account in a numbered weekly offering envelope or blue pew envelope.
  2. Write on the outside of the envelope the amounts you want to go to specific ministries of the church.  If you do not designate any ministries, the entire amount will go to the general fund.
  3. Place the offering envelope in the offering plate during Sunday service as you would any other offering.
  4. Print the IRA Distribution form from the website or ask the Financial Recording Secretary for a copy.
  5. Please fill in the fields for amount, custodian of IRA, date, name, address and signature.
  6. An acknowledgement letter will be issued within 30 days of receipt of the check and the letter.

Following this procedure will help us better serve the congregation and provide accurate documentation in a timely manner.
