Frequently Asked Questions

How large is your church?  Between our two services we have approximately 300 in attendance on Sundays.

How old is your church?  Our roots are deep in downtown Findlay – we were founded in 1870 at the same location we are today.  In 1946 after a merger with the United Brethren Church we became St. Paul's Evangelical United Brethren Church.  The Evangelical United Brethren Church merged with the Methodist Church in 1968 to become the United Methodist Church.  Click here for more about our history.

When are your services held?  We have two Sunday morning services.  Our Contemporary Service is at 8:00 am and our Traditional Service is at 10:15 with Sunday School at 9:15.

What is your Contemporary worship like?  If you grew up listening to pop or rock music on the radio, then this will most likely be your “heart language” when it comes to singing in worship. You are sure to be comfortable with a worship team up front.  A worship team looks like a band with drums, bass, guitars and singers. But don't be fooled - this is no performance.  Worship is a full participation experience.  The worship team is there to worship God and to encourage you to worship with them.

What is your Traditional worship like?  If you grew up going to a liturgical church and enjoyed the responsive readings, old hymns and an organ, then this will probably be the service you can sing in your "heart language." But make no mistake - this isn't just for old timers. There are plenty of young parents who wish to pass on this rich heritage of worship. There are also young adults who have chosen this form for its sense of stability in the midst of our chaotic world.

Who is your Pastor?  Pastor Greg Creech, an Asbury Theological Seminary graduate, has been our pastor since 1991.

Do you have childcare?  Yes. Our Son Safari Nursery is available during all worship services. St. Paul’s safe and caring nursery provides well-prepared facilities and well-trained, loving workers to stand alongside and support parents as they seek to nurture their children.

Is the church handicap accessible?  We have a barrier free facility including an elevator giving access to each floor. We also provide, upon request, large print Bibles and audio enhancement.

Do you offer Sunday School?  Yes.  We provide a broad range of Sunday School offerings at 9:15 on Sunday mornings.

What about my children?  Children are welcomed with open arms!  In worship, they are specifically included as much as possible.  Our Son Safari Nursery cares for babies from one week to three years old during all services

Also, St. Paul’s has excellent preschool, children and youth ministries. The children's ministry offers age based Sunday School classes at 9:15 am. During worship, children leave just before the sermon to attend a special children's worship time.  Junior High and High School students also meet Sunday evenings.

How do I get to St. Paul’s?   We are downtown, two blocks east of Main Street at 218 East Sandusky Street, right across from Marathon Oil’s parking lot.  Click here for directions.

Where do I Park?  Parking is available on our site, and special guest parking spots are available at the main entrance.  We also use Marathon Oil’s parking lot just across Sandusky Street on Saturdays, Sundays and weekdays after 6:00 PM.

What should I wear to church?  It is entirely up to you. You will be welcome at St. Paul’s in whatever you wear.  Generally, the dress at the contemporary service is more casual - from shorts and tees to dress casual. Dress for the traditional service is more conservative – from dress casual to suits but there are some who comfortably wear jeans to this service.

Do I have to be a member to participate?  Absolutely not.  We invite all to come worship with us. At St. Paul’s all people are encouraged to know the love of Christ.

What opportunities do I have to join in?  We have become known as a church that serves our community.  We provide a monthly free community dinner.  We regularly offer food distribution to those in need.   We send work teams (youth and adult) out to areas in need such as Katrina relief (eight trips and counting). We host Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace class and support local agencies that provide assistance to those in need.

How do I become a member?  Several times a year, we hold a New Member orientation called Discovering Church Membership.  During this time, you will hear from the pastor about becoming a member of St. Paul’s.  You may become a member on a convenient Sunday following the session.

Do I have to be a member to schedule a wedding?  No.  To schedule a wedding or to discuss becoming a member, contact the Church Office at 419-422-4131.

What are the Church Office hours?  8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

How do I contact the church?  Our phone number is 419-422-4131 or email us at Office(at)stpaulfindlay.org with any questions that you might have.
